Privacy Policy

This is a courtesy translation. The German version is legally binding: Datenschutzerklärung.

Protecting your data matters to us. Below we explain which personal data we process when you visit this website, for what purpose and on what legal basis.

1. Controller

DK Online-Medien GmbH
Am Alten Jagdstern 4a
14547 Beelitz, Germany
Email: redaktion@digitalkompakt.de

Represented by its managing director Joël Kaczmarek. You will also find the contact details in the legal notice.

2. Processed data and purposes at a glance

  • Delivering the website and creating server log files (hosting)
  • Loading embedded content that you start yourself (podcast player, videos)
  • Loading individual images from our media store
  • Handling enquiries you send us by email

This website sets no cookies, performs no audience measurement and embeds no advertising or tracking services. Fonts are hosted on our own server; no connection is made to any font provider.

3. Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by Vercel Inc. (340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA). When pages are called up, information is automatically transmitted to the server and stored in what are known as server log files: the page requested, date and time, volume of data transferred, browser and version, operating system, referrer URL and IP address. This processing is technically necessary in order to deliver the website reliably and securely.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the site in a functional and secure manner (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with the provider. On transfers to the USA, see section 8.

Log files are deleted after 30 days, unless they are exceptionally needed for longer to investigate a specific security incident.

4. Cookies and access to your device

We store no cookies on your device and do not otherwise access information stored there – neither for analytics nor for advertising. Consent under Section 25(1) TDDDG is therefore not required, which is why you will not see a consent banner on this website.

If you start an embedded player (section 6), the provider concerned may itself store information on your device or access it. This happens only after your click and on the basis of your consent (Section 25(1) TDDDG, Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

5. Audience measurement

At present no audience measurement takes place. We evaluate neither page views nor usage behaviour. Should we introduce an analytics tool later, we will update this policy beforehand.

6. Embedded content – only when you click

We do not load podcast players and videos automatically. You first see only a preview image; a connection to the provider is established only when you tap play. Before that, no data flows there.

  • Podigee (Podigee GmbH, Schlesische Str. 20, 10997 Berlin, Germany) for the audio player. Transmitted are your IP address, details about browser and device, and the episode requested.
  • YouTube (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) for videos. We embed exclusively via youtube-nocookie.com, which collects less data than the regular embed.

The legal basis is your consent, given when you click play (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). The respective provider is responsible for any further processing; their privacy terms apply.

Individual images – guest photos, for example – are loaded from our media store atSupabase (Supabase, Inc., 970 Toa Payoh North, Singapore). Your IP address is transmitted to the provider in the process. This is technically necessary in order to deliver the image (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); a data processing agreement is in place.

References to podcast platforms (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer, YouTube) and to LinkedIn are plain links. Only when you click them do you leave this website, and the terms of the respective provider then apply.

7. Newsletter and contacting us

Our newsletter is not subscribed to on this website. The “Newsletter” button leads to an external service; sign-up and the processing of your email address take place exclusively there, under the terms applying to that service. We receive no sign-up data from this website.

Our enquiry forms likewise send nothing to a server. They open your email program with a prepared message – you decide whether to send it. If you write to us, we process your details solely in order to handle your enquiry and for any follow-up questions. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) or, where the enquiry is aimed at a contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

8. Recipients and transfers to third countries

Outside our own organisation, data is received only by:

  • Vercel Inc., USA – hosting (processor)
  • Supabase, Inc., Singapore – media store (processor)
  • Podigee GmbH, Germany – audio player (after your click)
  • Google Ireland Limited, Ireland – YouTube videos (after your click)

Where data is processed outside the EU or EEA, we base the transfer on the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses under Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR together with supplementary safeguards. Where the provider is additionally certified under theEU-US Data Privacy Framework, transfers to that provider are based on the European Commission’s adequacy decision of 10 July 2023 (Art. 45 GDPR).

Data is not passed on for advertising purposes. Beyond the above, we disclose data only where we are legally obliged to do so.

9. Storage period

We store personal data only for as long as it is needed for the respective purpose:

  • Server log files: 30 days
  • Email enquiries: until the enquiry has been dealt with, and at most six months beyond that for follow-up questions
  • Business correspondence relating to a contract: six or ten years in line with commercial and tax law retention periods (Section 257 HGB, Section 147 AO)

After that we delete the data or restrict processing accordingly.

10. Your rights

You have the following rights against us with regard to your personal data:

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • Right to object to the processing (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • Right to withdraw consent that has been given (Art. 7(3) GDPR)

11. Complaint to the supervisory authority

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority about the processing of your personal data (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is:

Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und für das Recht auf Akteneinsicht Brandenburg
Stahnsdorfer Damm 77
14532 Kleinmachnow, Germany
www.lda.brandenburg.de

You may equally contact the supervisory authority of your habitual residence or place of work.

12. Right to object

Where we process data on the basis of our legitimate interest, you have the right to object to this processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. Send your objection informally to the email address given above.

13. Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our website or the legal situation changes. The version published here at any given time is the one that applies.

This privacy policy is dated 28 August 2026.
