Advisory board

Someone on your advisory board who asks the right questions

I have chaired advisory board meetings before – and I find the role genuinely interesting. If you have a seat to fill, or you want your meetings to become tighter and more honest: let us talk.

Two ways

As a member or as a chair

Both are possible – and both start with a conversation about where you stand right now.

A seat on the board

A seat on your advisory board, taken by someone who has known the digital economy from close up since 2009 – as a journalist, as a co-shareholder and as an entrepreneur who has built things himself and got things wrong himself.

Chairing advisory board meetings

A meeting that gets somewhere: a clear agenda, the uncomfortable questions at the right moment, and decisions at the end instead of another loop. That is exactly the work I have been doing for years in the podcast and on stage.

What I bring

Four things that count on a board

First-hand market overview
From 800+ conversations with founders, board members and investors I usually know who has already solved a problem – and how.
A network that holds
Connections grown over more than ten years across startups, mid-sized companies and corporates. For advisory boards often worth more than the advice itself.
Honest and direct
I say what is. The mistake is not the problem, covering it up is – and that counts on an advisory board even more than elsewhere.
Mistakes of my own
A failed startup, a business club, holdings that did not work out. Anyone who only knows success is of little use on an advisory board.

Capacity

Three mandates a year

An advisory board is not an appointment, it is a commitment over years. I cannot take more than three mandates seriously at the same time, so I do not accept more than three. If it does not fit right now, I will say so – and get in touch when something opens up.

Enquiry

Talk about a mandate

Write a few lines about what it is about – the company, the stage, and whether it is about a mandate or about chairing your meetings. I will get back to you.
